Finding my passion

For some people, dreams are just dreams. But for me, dreams become reality with the right amount of hard work I put into it. That being said, my dream is to become a National Football League (NFL) content creator. If you don’t know what that is, my role as this would be to travel with an NFL team and create content that would be used for marketing purposes, such as photos, videos, and graphics.

My passion for this possible career started because of one boys lacrosse game my sophomore year of high school. I went out to record a hype video, a video showcasing an event to the beat of music, for fun. But I never knew how this one game would change my life. I posted the video I created to the social media app TikTok and it went viral around Key West. It got 16.1 thousand views. After that moment, it created a passion in me to create more content.

Throughout the rest of my sophomore year, I kept practicing my digital art techniques. Once junior year rolled around, I improved tremendously. I was asked by various sports teams to capture athletic games and school events with my new skills in photography and videography. My teacher, Mr. Ed Smith influenced me to enter my work into the state competition for high school students. With a lot of persuasion, I eventually did, and I’m glad that he kept pestering me about it because the outcome was phenomenal. In April 2022, I got first in the state for feature photography, and second in the state for action sports photography.

Ever since that moment, my career started to take off. My first official college football invite was with the University of Connecticut over the summer of 2022. They invited me up to help with their media day and to tour their football facility. It was truly an eye opening experience and it sparked my interest for this industry even more.

In September 2022, the University of Central Florida invited me to take pictures of a college football game against Georgia Tech. I knew that I loved my work, but I didn’t know that others loved it too. After that game, I knew for a fact that I wanted to be a part of this.

Having these opportunities doesn’t just open my eyes, but it opens the eyes of other women who want to work in the sports industry. Gender shouldn’t limit the capability to do what you love, no matter what anyone tells you. If you work hard enough, you can achieve anything.

I never thought one boys lacrosse game would change my life. Even though they lost that game, I felt like I won.
