As the 2021-2022 school year kicks off, students have been introduced to many new teachers and staff. One of these is a returning staff member, filling a new role with us as our Key West High School Athletic Director! This staff member has worked here at KWHS as a freshman world geography teacher for the last two years, but decided to take a huge step in his career path by moving further into our school’s athletic program. This year we welcome back Mr. Justin Martin with open arms as he strives to make the athletic program better than ever.

Mr. Martin was once a student here at KWHS, and was drawn back to teach here because of that. He said that “Athletic Director has always been my dream job.” When he saw that opportunity was indeed at KWHS he jumped right on it, fulfilling that dream. He says “Mrs. Etkert ran the program well, I just want to continue building strong traditions, and holding past successes.” He looks forward to “seeing the success of student athletes, achievements, and watching them grow as not only athletes but people.”
In his free time, Mr. Martin enjoys spending time with family and friends. He plans to make many with the new faces from the 2025 class, and to continue helping student athletes achieve their goals.
Mr. Martin also took over the Girls Varsity Soccer Team when he joined the KWHS staff, and hopes to continue coaching even on top of his new busy schedule. His athletes look forward to seeing him back on the field alongside them. If you have any questions for Mr. Martin, you can contact him at justin.martin@keysstudents, or visit him in our front office!
