High school is 4 years long and is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. Not the best years, but they will definitely be at the top of my list. Although there have been some not-great parts, the experiences I’ve had and opportunities that I have had are once in a lifetime. Since starting high school in August of 2021, I have been focused on getting better grades, staying active through sports, and staying involved in clubs.
In my senior year, I’m still keeping up with academics and athletics, but I’m also enjoying some of the benefits of senior year. For some of my clubs and sports, I’ve gotten leadership roles such as co-editor of Snapper and co-captain for the swim team. As the year has just started, there haven’t been many social or sporting events going on, so the start of senior year has been college, graduation, and the start of many “lasts” and firsts. Some of these are the last day of school, the last football game, and the first college application to the University of North Florida. As the year moves forward, more clubs will start up, and more college applications will be submitted, while I can’t wait for those parts, I will continue to reminisce on past experiences.
Senioritis is tough to work around when you’re a senior, especially when you just want to graduate and move on to the next step, whether college or the workforce. Although don’t go too fast, the year is already fast enough. My advice for underclassmen and even other seniors is to listen to Luke on Gilmore Girls when he says, “You just gotta jump in, be scared, and stick with it until you have fun.” As one last piece of advice from what I’ve learned (socially) throughout high school, do not care about others’ opinions about you, we’re all living our own lives, we’re all going to have different things going on in life and be on different paths. If you want to do something, listen to Nike and “Just Do It”.
