Nadal v.s. Medvedev Tennis Match

At the 2022 Australian Open, there has already been more drama than usual with Novak Djokovic and his vaccination status, but aside from that, there have been very close games and record-breaking matches too. A prime example of this was the Mens’ Final match on Sunday, January 30, 2022, where Rafael Nadal went up against Daniil Medvedev and won. The match was also Rafeal Nadal’s 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian opening.

Early Sunday morning, at the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev had a tight match with a final score (in games) of 3 to 2. Other than Nadal getting his 21st Grand Slam title, he additionally took the title for most mens’ singles Grand Slam titles from Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Nadal’s opponent, Daniil Medvedev, also had some great accomplishments during the about five and a half hour match.

During the games, Medvedev broke Nadal’s serve twice by winning while he was on the receiving side. Out of his 21 years of playing professional tennis, this was only Nadal’s 4th comeback from being down two sets to love (zero). Medvedev also had some fantastic returns to Nadal’s serves, which brought him to win the first two games in the match. However, his opponent was not a bad one according to what Nadal said during the award ceremony. Nadal told atptour.com, “To share the court with Daniil was such an honor, (…)”.  This match was additionally incredible for another reason as well.

Along with making a come-back in the scoring, Nadal also had a surprising turn-around to the Australian Open in all. According to theguardian.com, Nadal came into the Australian Open from a six-month lay off due to a severe foot injury that could’ve made him never able to play tennis again. Despite that, he had a great recovery and was preparing to play in the Australian Open until he was diagnosed with Covid-19 in December of 2021. However, despite the foot injury and Covid, Nadal was able to gather up all the strength he had left, and win his record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title at the 2022 Australian Open.
