This past week, 20 drivers from 10 teams competed in the Formula 1 (F1) Miami Grand Prix. With rainy weather all weekend, some unfortunate events occurred, and some history was made.
In the first sprint qualifying race, the newest Mercedes driver, Kimi Antonelli, became the youngest pole sitter in F1. A pole sitter is the person who finishes the fastest lap in the qualifying race, and just 66 days after he passed his driving test, Antonelli earns the title of the youngest F1 pole sitter at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. The other driver for the Mercedes F1 team, George Russell, took third place in the final Miami Grand Prix race. Starting that final race in P5 (the fifth position) and ending in P3, Russell got Mercedes a podium position, and his fourth podium position this season.
In between the races for Formula 1 were the F1 Academy races, the female league of Formula 1. With two races at the Miami International Autodrome, the second was postponed and eventually canceled due to heavy downpours in the area. However, Mercedes F1 Academy driver Doriane Pin won that race, with the following two podium positions going to Alisha Palmowski and Chloe Chambers.
The 2025 Miami Grand Prix winner is McLaren. Oscar Piastri claimed first place, and his teammate Lando Norris claimed second. This race weekend was very exciting for the McLaren racing team, as they won both the Grand Prix and the Sprint. The Grand Prix race was 57 laps around a 3.36-mile track, while the Sprint was only 18 laps. McLaren also became the first team to secure a Grand Prix and a Sprint.
As the 2025 Miami Grand Prix has officially ended, the drivers and their teams are off to Europe for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the famous Monaco Grand Prix, and the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain.
