On October 21st, Taylor Swift, an American music artist, will release Midnights, making this her 10th studio album in her career. At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Swift announced her album Midnights in her speech for winning the best video of the year, best long-form video, and best direction for her music video All Too Well (10 minute version) (Taylor’s Version) starring Dylan O’ Brien and Sadie Sink. The album is known to have 13 tracks, which is ironically Swift’s favorite number (or is it ironic?). 

Fans say that Swift releasing this announcement at the 2022 MTV VMAs was iconic due to her past experience with Kanye West at the 2009 MTV VMAs.They noticed that her dress was similar to the one at the 2009 event. And what makes this announcement crazier is that the drop of her album is on Kimberly Kardashian’s birthday, which is West’s ex-wife. The “swifties,” Taylor Swift’s fan base, saw this as a “power move,” or that Swift is “girl bossing.” Of course, these rumors are just assumptions, but the fans don’t think this is a coincidence. 

Adding on to the conspiracy theories, in Swift’s music video for her single Lover, it showed a house with nine different rooms with different themes. Fans suspected that each room represented one of her albums. However, outside of the house there is a “midnight” sky. MIDNIGHT SKY. Midnights, midnight sky? Do you see the correlation between these two? Because of this, the swifties lead to believe that this will be Swift’s last album, or it could be the end of an era for her. Fans will never know what Swift’s next move might be, but they’re hoping she’s not done with music forever. 

The album cover is completely different from what she has done in the past, using the cool tones of blue and purple to make an appealing cover. I believe that this cover shows how Swift has changed as an individual, going from a heartbroken teenage girl to a mature woman.

I’m excited to see where Swift is going to go with this album, and I’m excited for it to fill my ears with joyful noises, and maybe fill my eyes with tears of joy (or sadness).
