Tyrann Mathieu Signs with Saints

Days after the draft the New Orleans Saints went on to sign one of the highest ranked free agents. The Saints had just signed safety Marcus Maye earlier in the offseason and got rid of Marcus Williams who got signed by the Baltimore Ravens. The Saints now have one of the best duo safeties in the league now. Tyrann Mathieu is one of four safeties since 2000 to win a superbowl and have 3x first team all-pros to their name. Tyrann Mathieu has undoubtedly been one of the best safeties in the league since 2013 even when he was a rookie. Tyrann has averaged over 65+ tackles in almost all of his seasons in the league and has had at least one interception per season. This is Tyrann Mathieu’s fourth team in five years. Tyrann has been on the Cardinals, Texans, Chiefs, and now the Saints. Even after producing well with different teams and defensive schemes he was always released after a year or two, his longest tenure with a team was with the Arizona Cardinals where he stayed five years with. The Saints defense should be pretty top tier on defense, especially in their secondary with C.J. Gardner Johnson, Marshon Lattimore, and now Marcus Maye and Tyrann Mathieu. The Saints’ defense has already been top tier the past few years with their best year in 2018 when they made it all the way to the NFC Conference Championship, where one of the most controversial plays in NFL history occurred with a no call pass interference call. The Saints missed the playoffs last year when they looked poised to be one of the better teams in the league. The Saints are hoping that Tyrann’s leadership is going to make a difference in the team and help them win so they can be a contender.
