94th Academy Awards: The Oscars 2022

The Oscars are an award show that goes on every year. Even when the pandemic was at its peak it still went on. The 94th Oscars took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022. The award show honored the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2021. Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes hosted the ceremony. The pre-show was hosted by Vanessa Hudgens; Terrence J; Brandon Maxwell; Sofia Carson.

The movie that won the most Oscars was “Dune”. It stars actor Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Jason Mamoa. It won six Oscars. One of the biggest things that happened at the Oscars was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock. Will Smith slapped him because Chris Rock made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s, hair. She has alopecia, so her hair is a very sensitive topic for her. She has made her struggle with hair loss very public. TMZ has said Chris Rock was unaware Even some other people found the joke funny, she found it offensive. After seeing his wife’s facial expression he went up and slapped Chris Rock, leaving him stunned. 

Will Smith has since then apologized to Academy and Rock directly. A lot of people were upset that he did that, but many people are glad that he stood up for his wife. This is a moment that will be remembered forever. It did not take long for it to go viral. It was pretty obvious that it would go viral because it is two very famous people getting into an altercation. Will Smith did, later on, win his first Oscar for the movie “King Richard”, where he plays the father and coach of Serena and Venus Williams. He was very emotional whenever he received the award. He was crying while giving his thank you speech. Even though the night got hectic but at least it ended as a good night.
