Just about 3 years away from the next summer Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is bringing back and scaling back on the sporting events. The Olympics will have more familiar sights as Los Angeles, California will host the games for the city’s third time.
This past summer, at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the breaking (breakdancing) and boxing events had some head-turning moments. As breaking, with many great performances, including the Team USA breakdancer Victor Montalvo, who earned a bronze medal with his skills. Though breaking is an excellent way to share stories or experiences, the event will not return for the 2028 games. As for boxing, there was one match that tore apart the boxing community due to rules and regulations, for that reason, boxing will not be in the 2028 Olympics.
In Los Angeles, baseball and softball will be back in the Olympics for the first time in about 32 years, as baseball was included in the games in 1992 and softball was on the schedule in the 1996 games. However, the sports will be played with six or seven innings as that is a part of the international rules.
Another sport to make a comeback in the 2028 Olympics is Lacrosse. Originally seen a century ago, lacrosse was in both the 1904 and 1908 Olympics held in St. Louis, Missouri, and London, England. The form of lacrosse that will be in Los Angeles in 2028, will allow six-member teams which include the goalkeeper. Additionally, the game will be made of four eight-minute quarters, which makes it faster than the usual four 15-minute quarters with a 10-minute halftime. Though, the lacrosse events will enticing,
With a couple more sports, such as cricket and squash, coming back to the games, more athletes will get to be on the big stage for their sport. This means more incredible stories and lessons will come from the athletes in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
