As the end of October, and homecoming, nears, Key West High School (KWHS) fall sports come to an end. As for many seniors, this season is the last season of playing their sport. With all of the sports, fall, winter, and spring, there are always student-athletes in the KWHS Backyard, softball field, Rex Weech Field, and the weight room.
Throughout the season, KWHS student-athletes work hard on and off the field to excel in the fall sports of football, swimming, cross-country, golf, and volleyball. Especially for the class of 2025 seniors, who have excelled in their sport and in the classroom for the past 4 years. To honor their dedication and hard work, each team usually has a meet, game, or tournament where they recognize the seniors. It’s typically one of the last events of the season. For example, the KWHS swim team celebrates their senior members at the last home meet before they go to the district swim meet. For the KWHS football team, marching band, Conchettes, and Cheer team, the Homecoming Football game will be their last appearance. However, the KWHS marching band had their last performance at their Music Performance Assessment (MPA), which was successful as they got a superior rating. The last event of the fall sports are the
Once the fall sports end, there usually isn’t too much time before the next season begins. whether the students are playing a Winter sport like soccer or basketball, or beginning off-season practices for a Spring sport like track or softball. Aside from athletics, there are still academics and other school activities. As winter sports start, the week of midterms also rapidly approaches, which is usually a stressful time for both students and teachers. However, many students can relax and destress with the Powderpuff flag football game coming up, where the girls play flag football while the boys take the roles of cheerleaders.
As the fall sports season wraps up, the students, teachers, and parents are excited to see what comes next. Overall, the sporting areas around Key West will be filled with students exercising, practicing, and playing. The student-athletes will be busy all winter with the combination of sports and school.
