Every year, 32 NFL teams play throughout the season, and only two are left to win the Lombardi trophy and become Super Bowl champions. This season Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs face off against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles will get the chance to play for football’s biggest prize.
The Chiefs come in as the slight betting underdogs at a +105, although many fans don’t agree with the odds and see the Chiefs winning the game. It has been yet another stellar season from Patrick Mahomes, who could very likely be the season MVP. The Chiefs offense, although there were doubts at the start of the year about Mahomes without his star receiver Tyreek Hill (now on the Miami Dolphins). Those doubters were silenced quickly as Mahomes went 14-3 and put together an MVP case season, other offensive pieces showed themselves this season as key weapons for Mahomes. Tight end Travis Kelce let it be known he was the #1 tight end in the league, and Mahomes number one weapon undisputedly. Both running backs, rookie Isiah Pacheco and Jerick Mckinnon showed they were threats in the passing and running game as well for the Chiefs. The Chiefs defense also stepped up immensely this season, especially in the playoffs where they held the Jaguars and Bengals to only 20 points, and forced turnovers in crucial situations in both games. With Mahomes ankle injury healing and a defense that is getting better by the game, the Chiefs will be even more dangerous than they have been all playoff.
The Eagles come in as slight betting favorites at a -125. The story of the Eagles season has been the breakout of Jalen Hurts, who in his third year in the league has blossomed into a bonafide superstar. If it wasn’t for an injury late in the season that forced him to miss a couple games, he would be the runaway favorite for MVP. Hurts dual-threat ability through passing and running has been a problem for nearly every team they have faced, in the playoffs that have been no different as Hurts soundly took care of business against the Giants and the wounded 49ers who suffered a plethora of injuries throughout that game. Hurts success can also be brought to the addition of star receiver A.J. Brown in the offseason, who easily cemented himself as a top receiver in the league today. The Eagles defense has been extremely good as well as their secondary with Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and C.J. Gardner Johnson which has been a nightmare for many teams this year. Their defensive line has shown lots of promise too, with veteran presence from Ndamukong Suh and Brandon Graham, and breakout player Hasson Reddick showing he will be a problem in the league for years to come. The Eagles are gonna look to slow down Mahomes and use Jalen Hurts in all facets of his game, if they do that, they could bring their first Lombardi trophy, since former quarterback Nick Foles cinderella story in 2018.
