School Grades: Too Forced Upon? by Jayden Alvarez

When at school, it is essential to look at our work and see how we can improve how grades are used. While this seems normal and very good, there is a problem with it being about pressure. The pressure is due to schools emphasizing grades and having them be high so students can be successful in school and the future when they look for schools in college. It is also a problem due to students’ stress due to schools pushing this message too hard and even having students become upset and cooperative. While this may seem alarming, there is also a positive, with it showing how the person sees how they had done and could work on those areas and see what they need to work on. With The information we have, we need to show the details and go in-depth on how these are negatives and positives to see whether school Grades are more positive or negative.

We should first look at the negatives to prove whether the negatives of grades outweigh the positives. The first is the pressure on grades throughout college and most academic life. An example of this would be a student who has had good grades throughout middle and high school and is about to go into college but is still pressured due to the grades they had gotten before due to them not being “enough” in their eyes. The other negative was about the grades stressing out the students due to the pressure they get from average to low grades. An example of this would be a student who has an average of C and is told that those grades won’t get him into many colleges because most colleges want above-average students to enroll. Hence, they began to get worried even more about schools and teachers who just wanted to help.

While the negatives seem appealing, we should also look at the positives, which might sway people’s opinion on school grades. An example of how it could help people see how well they can improve would be a student who has a lousy grade due to an assignment, but if they see the grades, they can see how they did, and they will be able to see what they need to work on to improve. This is a good point that shows the positive of school grades, but another positive of this would be that if they were shown grades, their parents could see what classes they don’t do well in and be able to help them out. An example is when a student does poorly in mathematics, and their parents see the grades in the class and begin to help the student graduate and pursue higher education in a good college.
