Kwhs welcomes 8th graders

This week, Monday, February 3rd, eighth graders from all over Key West came to KWHS to see it as one of their options for what high school they may want to attend next year as freshmen. Sigsbee Charter School, Grace Lutheran School, Sugarloaf School, and Horace O’Bryant were invited to join the field trip. This event was from 9:15 AM – 11:00 AM. Permission slips from certain schools must be turned in by Friday, January 31st. The high school has a presentation ready for the students to watch. There were a few presentation subjects, one was about all the different classes you can take such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes, honors, and Dual Enrollment (DE) classes. That was specifically for the students who are more into their studies and may want to go for more credits and harder, more advanced classes. There were also recommendations for certain electives for more creative students who may want to learn about art history or how to solve murders. They introduced culinary classes, fashion, video tech, and auto mechanics and even showed the eighth graders a tour of those classes. They also listed the requirements, rules, and regulations that Key West High School revolves around, such as respect and specific expected behavioral requirements. The KWHS staff did not only tell them what they needed to achieve to go there but also told them all of the requirements they needed to go to college and the different electives, clubs, or even classes that may give the students extra credit for college while also helping your high school stats or ones that a specifically for college. Some classes they have for different interests are Criminal Justice, Theater 1 or Theater 2, Journalism, and more. They even have a Drama Club, Cultural Club, Crochet Club, and an LGBTQIA+ Club. Another class that may catch a lot of students’ eyes is band. They had a fantastic welcoming performance for the eighth graders in the Key West High School auditorium to show what they could be a part of next year.
