Modern movies: original stories or sequel bankers?

The modern movie industry has been making movies for decades, most original, but some are made sequentially to get the most money out of a franchise. This is due to the company not wanting to be able to lose a potential money maker, which could have them rake in millions to even billions of dollars from the franchise. While companies see this as a success that could make them gain a lot of money, this could also come at a considerable risk, which is having the people who watch the movie have less interest in it, which leads to the movie not doing so well hurting the reputation of the franchise and even in some major ones full out cancel the next film or the entire franchise in general. This also comes with potentially having more people come on especially writers and other animators who bring their own story;e pn what should be in the movie or franchise and make the original lose where it has come from and even its identity. In this, I will list examples and reasons why the specific movies would have been lost or canceled to see if these sequels are the confirmed death of some of these franchises.

A movie this could happen to, leading to its downfall, would be a franchise with too many sequels, which could contradict and add some elements that the original was not about. An example would be to have a movie with a story of when a person falls into a fairy tale and has to find a way out, with the end of the story having the person get out. The sequels would add more elements like more books and even entire libraries with books that have monsters come out and terrorize people across the globe, with the main character having to get the book they came from and seal them back into it. While yes this could be a good sequel that builds upon the plot we had seen earlier, this is also a negative because the scope of the plot and franchise is becoming too broad with too many ideas that pull away from the original idea, which was a simple but potentially good one. Another example would be having too little with a movie setting a plot and having a cliffhanger for people who watched the movie but did not make it due to several things, with some of them even being that the original people who had made the idea simply didn’t want to do more movies from this because they could not have a passion for movie making or something else along the lines of this which could lead to people who had watched the movie demand it from the creators or people who had a hand in making the movies into doing another not because they wanted to but because people peer pressured them into doing it.
