October’s preparation for the Fall showcase behind the scenes.
On October 17th, the cast and the tech crew of Theater 1 started reading their scenes. With the excitement of finally hearing the whole play for most, they started and gave it their all. Rolling over to October 23rd with only a few days left, the teacher Mrs.B stopped us and told us that there would be rehearsals that day right after school. Students in Theatre 1 class seem to like Mrs. B., no one would say she gives them schedules or times to be in places in a late time frame. That day was just one of those days. Everyone in the class but a few could go, for most in the class, this will be their first after-school rehearsal so they are definitely excited for it. The first theater class after school rehearsal was Monday, October 21st yet not everyone was called to it, so technically October 23rd was their first after-school practice for everyone.
On October 24th during Mrs.B’s Theater 1 class, they finished the rest of the script and had a little lecture about making sure they communicate with the director and make sure that the dates the students told them they would be free for rehearsals that they would be there and they wouldn’t bail. Overall the day of October 24th was very productive we all know who will be called for after-school rehearsals tomorrow and that next week’s schedule should be posted on Google Classroom soon.
On November 4th there was a teacher that came in to see if Ms.B was doing a good job in teaching. The next day November 5th, Ms.B had a lecturer in the class that we were not completely focused on and the inspector reported that.
On November 12th the class had a talk with Sam Torna, the student director. Sam told the students how the final shows were on December 5th and 6th and because of Thanksgiving break there are only three more full weeks of practicing/rehearsing for the play so if you weren’t taking it seriously before now’s the time to start. There is 3 weeks of school before Thanksgiving break not counting the week of the play that week there will only be 3 days to rehearse witch was just found out that the week of the play they will have rehearsals that everyone has to show up to it will be hosted at the school from 2:15-6:00 pm December 2nd to December 4th. That day they did a few scenes and made all the final decisions for rehearsals for that week.
On December 2nd the Theater 1 class had a run-through of a scene in the play. There were some changes to push out but overall Sam, the director, wasn’t too disappointed with what the students had done. With only three more days to perfect it though she was stressed. Mrs. B told us that these three days will be tech week so all the actors should know what their lines are and all we don’t know is for tech to perfect the lighting and props that will be used.
On December 3rd Mrs.B told the theater 1 class what they needed to do to help the backstage crew so everyone was given an assignment to do to help with props and some were even asked to come at lunch. The students who did come during lunch worked on puppets, posters, and drawing specific props. There were also rehearsals from 3:30 to 6:30 like all of that week except Thursday and Friday.
On December 4th they are doing the whole play no stops with all the props and all of the costume changes and quick changes for the first time to practice for the upcoming days.
This December 5th, The play opens at 6:30pm and will start at 7pm. The play will be held in the KWHS’s Auditorium.
This December 6th is the play’s 2nd performance there second try so if they messed up anything the first time they have one more chance to get it right this time. It will be in the same place as the first one and will be opening at the same time.
