One weekend I was at my friend’s house. That night we were talking about going fishing with his dad on the 30 foot Nautic Star the next day. We then got everything ready for offshore fishing which consisted of trolling lures and bottom rigs because it was the Mutton spawn but before that, we went for Mahi Mahi. In the morning, that morning before sunrise it was dark cloudy telling us either it was going to be stormy and bad fishing or the sign of luck and wonder in what was going to happen that day. Once we loaded up the boat we started running out offshore to about 10-13 miles before we started looking for birds it was not stormy but was a little bit wavy and after hours of looking on weed lines and drop offs we ran farther out to the gulfstream about 16-18 miles out 0nce there it was filled with life like crabs Sharks and most importantly Mahi Mahi!!!!! We ran over to them and these were not the tiny ones, there were big bulls and cows with the adrenaline in my blood. We started casting and then zeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! My friend got one but I didn’t have time there were more than one and they went into a frenzy as we through in chum and started caching them one after another some bigger than others but all were keepers once we weeded out the schoolys
The bulls started biting and giving us good fights and we started to gafe the fish the first Mahi Mahi that I gaffed was weeks ago on my dad’s boat but these were way bigger than the one I gaffed last time but I’m a man so I did it anyways and I succeed bringing it in dic believe it was a perfect gafe shot and then after a while we limeted out on Mahi Mahi it was still pretty early like 2:30-3:30 . The fish in the cooler were bloody and beautiful with the yellow, green, blue colors and as the sun beat down on us we discussed are next move if you remember it was the mutton spawn and we weren’t too far from the spot so
In haste we went to the spot as other people new about the spawn and wanted in on the action and luckily we made it in time as there were boats in a line for miles and once closer you could hear the shouts and cries of joy or lose as people were catching and others were losing them. We got to the spot and let our anchor loose as it dug itself into the sand. I could never have expected what was going to happen. As we put out our heavy rods and baits people next to us were celebrating catching huge muttons and 2 mins of our baits in the water ‘tic tic tic tic tic tic’ and the oof I set the hook as hard as I could because my friend said I should it was the fight of my life and it was huge once it came up to the surface my friends dad gaffed it and then it was my friends turn to get one this time it was a huge orange target to gafe and then I gaffed in the head it was so big I could barely lift it but I still did on my own than I took it to the cooler once there I opened the box and for a second I noticed the change of color from the Mahi Mahi from bright vibrant colors to gray, dark blue then me and my friend get back to having fun catching fish we ended up with 8 muttons and 30 Mahi Mahi. After that we ran back home with victory and once we unloaded, filed, cleaned, showered, changed we had a party with my family and my friends eating Mahi Mahi and Mutton Snapper.
